Disney has announced today that it is extending its successful High School Musical franchise to include a new local production called Club High School Musical: Make It Happen.
Inspired by High School Musical, the new series will air throughout November on the Disney channel. Production company The Foundation will produce four 15-minute weekly shows, which will follow the stories of four devoted High School Musical fans and their challenge to create one of the biggest High School Musical dance events ever – in just four days. The shows will be presented by Kevin Adams (former Fame Academy choreographer).
Club High School Musical: Make It Happen is the third UK local production based on High School Musical. In 2007, the company launched High School Musical: You’re the Star, which searched for a young star-in-the-making to perform in their own professionally produced music video and in 2008, My School Musical, showcased UK kids’ High School Musical talents.
Disney Channels UK vice president of programming Jonathan Boseley, says that the new brand extension is part of the broadcaster’s aim to create “localised content to complement our global output and deepen the connection with our audience.”
The brand extension follows the announcement earlier this year that High School Musical 4, the latest instalment in the series, will return to television as a music and dance-filled Disney Channel Original Movie. The movie will involve a new cast of characters (no more Zac and Vanessa!) and is scheduled to begin production later this year.
